Generally, the courses that are done one-on-one are completed faster as there are less general questions that have to be attended to. An additional R1500 will be charged for one-on-one classes.

How many hours do I need to have before I can do the exam?

A person needs to have spent 25 hours on a boat or jet ski as a skipper, crewmember or as a passenger before he / she is allowed to do the examination.

If a person wants an Inland Waters license, then any 25 hours on board a South African registered boat or jet ski at sea or inland water can be used.
If a person wants a 1 Nautical Mile offshore license, then their 25 hours need to have been on a South African registered boat or jet ski at sea.

When and where are the courses done?

Classes are done every second or third Saturday morning. This will be confirmed by our academy.

An exam and the practical is done every 2 – 3 weeks at the Viking Lifesaving Equipment building on the corner of Neptune St &, Carlisle St, Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.

The practical is done at Oceana Power Boat Club in the Waterfront, which is about 10 min drive from the exam venue.
